40 Years in the Central Valley
How We Got Here (and What We’ve Learned Along the Way)

There’s a quiet kind of pride that comes with staying the course — especially when that course takes 40 years.
When Bart Richey and Donna Holstein started B & D Quality Water back in 1985, they weren’t dreaming of building a company with nearly 150 employees and multiple service divisions. They just wanted to help families get better water. That was it. That was the mission.
They partnered with RainSoft, loaded up their trucks, and hit the road — treating every customer like they were neighbors (because, well, they were). Turns out, when you do things the right way — no pressure, no gimmicks, just honest solutions — people remember.
It Was Never Just About Water

If you’ve lived in the Central Valley long enough, you know the real challenges that come with it. The air quality. The utility outages. The summer heat that doesn’t mess around. You find ways to adapt. And that’s exactly what we’ve tried to do, too.
In 2002, we started offering air purification — not because it was trendy, but because our team was living with the same air issues as our customers. In 2008, we saw the link between water quality and appliance health and introduced smarter water heating options. In 2009, we joined the solar movement to help families gain more control over their energy bills. And in 2011, when rolling blackouts and wildfire risks started to rise, we brought in backup generators and battery storage.
It’s been an evolution, sure. But at its core, it’s the same story: listen to what people actually need — and show up.
What We Know for Sure
Fast forward to now: We’re called Quality Home Services. We’ve got solar crews, service departments, battery installers, water techs, and more. But we’re still a family business. Donna’s kids, Joe and Jill, are steering the ship — and we still believe that integrity isn’t something you put in a slogan. It’s just how you treat people.

So... What’s Next?
We’re still listening. Still learning. Still showing up.
Whether you’ve been with us since the RainSoft-only days or just found us through solar, thank you. You’re part of this story. And we’re proud to keep writing it with you.
Here’s to 40 years — and whatever comes next.
