3 Easy Tips Every Homeowner Should Know

           Quick Solar Checkup:

If you have solar on your home, a quick checkup every now and then can help you catch small issues before they turn into bigger problems. Don’t worry—these tips are simple, fast, and perfect for anyone who isn’t a tech pro.

           1. Open Your Monitoring App (Just for a Minute!)

Your solar monitoring app is the easiest way to see how your system is doing.
Look for:

            A drop in production

            Any alerts or warnings

Panels showing “zero” or low output

If you’re not sure what you're looking at—no stress. A quick glance is enough. If something looks off, we’ll handle the rest.

           2. Take a Peek at Your Electric Bill

If your utility bill has been climbing over the last few months, that can be a sign your system isn't producing the way it used to.

Even a small increase might mean:

            A tripped breaker

            A disconnected inverter

            Shading or panel issues

Don’t ignore bill changes—your system should be saving you money.

           If you notice:

            Higher bills

Why PG&E Bills Keep Rising

PG&E Rate Increases, Rising Electric Bills California, Central Valley, Power Provider
Quality Home Services Solar, Local Energy Solutions, Electricity Costs

Have you noticed your electric bill creeping higher every month — even though you haven’t changed a thing in your home? You’re not alone. Across California, thousands of families are asking the same question: “Why does my PG&E bill keep going up?” Let’s break down what’s really happening — and what you can do to finally take back control of your power.

PG&E Rate Increases: What’s Really Happening

           Rising Electricity Costs in California

PG&E has raised rates several times over the past few years, and it’s hitting homeowners hard. In fact, according to state data,

PG&E customers are paying over 40% more today

than they did just five years ago.

Paying More for the Same Energy

What’s worse — many people are using less energy but paying more for it. A bill that used to be around $120 a month can now easily top $200 or even $300, depending on the season. And with new rate adjustments coming almost every year, there’s no end in sight.

Why the Utility Rate Hikes Keep Coming

           Infrastructure and Maintenance Costs

PG&E often says rate hikes are necessary to cover “grid maintenance” and “wildfire prevention.” But here’s the truth most homeowners don’t realize: When the company faces costs, damages, or penalties,

those costs are passed straight to customers.

           Hidden Fees Passed to Homeowners

So, whether it’s infrastructure upgrades, corporate fines, or executive pay, you’re the one paying for it. And since PG&E is the main utility for most of the Central Valley, homeowners have felt trapped — stuck with no real choice.

Bills That Keep Climbing Without Warning

Opening that monthly bill shouldn’t feel like a punch to the gut. But lately, that’s exactly how it feels.

It’s not just about higher numbers on the page — it’s about

           losing control

. When your bill jumps without warning, there’s no way to plan for it. It’s unpredictable, stressful, and unfair.

And with rising costs in every area of life — groceries, gas, insurance — paying the electric bill has become unbearable for many families.

You Actually Can Choose Who Powers Your Home

           Homeowners Have Options Today

For decades, most Californians have relied on PG&E because it was the only name they knew. But that’s changing — fast.

Today, homeowners have

           a choice

. You can decide who provides your power. You can choose to work with a

Instead of paying endlessly rising rates to PG&E, more homeowners are turning to

           A $49.9 Billion Question

In 2024, Americans spent a staggering $49.9 billion on bottled water, downing a collective 16.2 billion gallons. We're a nation obsessed with clean, safe water, and we're willing to pay a premium for it. But what exactly are we trying to avoid when we reach for that plastic bottle? Often, it’s a group of chemicals you might not even know about: PFAS.

The "Forever Chemicals" You Should Know About

PFAS, or per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances, have been around since the 1940s and are used in thousands of products. You’ve likely encountered them in everything from non-stick cookware to food packaging like pizza boxes and fast-food wrappers. You might even find them in some household cleaning products, paints, or personal care items like shampoo.

The biggest concern with these "forever chemicals" is right in the name—they break down incredibly slowly. This means they can build up in our bodies, in animals, and in the environment over time. The most common types are PFOA and PFOS, and they can find their way into our drinking water through industrial discharge, runoff from firefighting foam, and other sources, contaminating both public water sources and private wells.

But when your tap water has an unpleasant taste or odor, you might find yourself reaching for another expensive bottled water instead. The quality of your water also affects more than just what you drink. Hard, untreated water can leave your skin feeling dry and your hair lifeless after a shower, even as you try to cool off.

How healthy is my air quality? Is the air quality indoors better? Is it more safe than outdoors? Living in the Central Valley - residents always face challenges

When the Central Valley heats up, our homes become our sanctuaries. We crank up the AC, switch on our fans, and retreat indoors, spending more time in what we assume is a clean, cool escape. But what if the air inside your home is a hidden contributor to your allergies and discomfort?

The truth is, the air within our homes can be as much as five times more polluted than the air outside. The same outdoor culprits like dust, pollen, and even wildfire smoke that the valley traps get into our homes. Once inside, they're joined by pet dander, volatile chemicals from cleaning products, and other particles that are recirculated by your very own air conditioner and fans. These pollutants can get trapped inside, creating an environment that's far from the fresh, clean air we all deserve.<

Big Win for Solar Homeowners: Your Investments Are Protected!

Great news for solar users across the state! Thanks to an incredible outpouring of support from homeowners like you, a major threat to rooftop solar has been defeated. Legislators in the State Senate overwhelmingly voted yesterday to protect existing solar contracts, securing the benefits for millions.

A bill known as AB 942 posed a serious risk to 2 million rooftop solar contracts. If passed, it would have unfairly penalized solar users just for choosing clean energy. This was a direct attack on the investments homeowners have made in solar power.

This victory wouldn't have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of concerned citizens. Your calls, emails, and advocacy demonstrated the powerful impact of a united community. It showed legislators just how much Californians value their solar independence and the clean energy future.

It’s Official: The 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit Is Ending — Here’s What You Need to Know

A Moment That Will Impact Thousands of Homeowners

If you’ve been considering solar, the clock is now officially ticking. The recent Senate confirmation has locked in the expiration of the 30% Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for residential homeowners. That means after December 31, 2025, this generous incentive — which has helped millions of Americans go solar affordably — will disappear.

But here's the part many people don't realize: To qualify, your solar project must start before September 30.

That gives you only a few months to act. This isn’t just another deadline. It’s the last chance to make solar more affordable before prices go up and incentives vanish.

Why This Tax Credit Has Been So Important

The 30% federal solar tax credit has been one of the most impactful clean energy policies in U.S. history. It allows homeowners to deduct 30% of the total cost of their solar system — including equipment, labor, and even batteries — from their federal taxes. Combined with utility rebates and local incentives, it’s made solar not just good for the environment — but smart for your wallet too.

What’s Changing — And Why It Matters Now

With the passage of what many are calling the “Big Beautiful Bill,” the countdown is real.

✅ The full 30% tax credit ends in 2025

✅ To qualify, your project must begin before September 30

✅ Permits, designs, and utility approvals take time — so waiting until fall may be too late

In other words: even if the expiration is technically December 31, your project must be in motion well before that

           .

Why Go Solar Now (Besides the Tax Credit)?

Even without the credit, solar is one of the smartest long-term decisions you can make — but the timing has never been better than right now.

           Here’s why:

Utility rates in California are surging

             year after year

When Bart Richey and Donna Holstein started B & D Quality Water back in 1985, they weren’t dreaming of building a company with nearly 150 employees and multiple service divisions. They just wanted to help families get better water. That was it. That was the mission.

They partnered with RainSoft, loaded up their trucks, and hit the road — treating every customer like they were neighbors (because, well, they were). Turns out, when you do things the right way — no pressure, no gimmicks, just honest solutions — people remember.

If you’ve lived in the Central Valley long enough, you know the real challenges that come with it. The air quality. The utility outages. The summer heat that doesn’t mess around. You find ways to adapt. And that’s exactly what we’ve tried to do, too.

In 2002, we started offering air purification — not because it was trendy, but because our team was living with the same air issues as our customers. In 2008, we saw the link between water quality and appliance health and introduced smarter water heating options. In 2009, we joined the solar movement to help families gain more control over their energy bills. And in 2011, when rolling blackouts and wildfire risks started to rise, we brought in backup generators and battery storage.

It’s been an evolution, sure. But at its core, it’s the same story: listen to what people actually need — and show up.
Fast forward to now: We’re called Quality Home Services. We’ve got solar crews, service departments, battery installers, water techs, and more. But we’re still a family business. Donna’s kids, Joe and Jill, are steering the ship — and we still believe that integrity isn’t something you put in a slogan. It’s just how you treat people.

30% Solar Tax Credit Ending?

The 30% solar tax credit could end January 2026. What does this mean for Central Valley homeowners and how to lock in your savings before it’s too late.

Is the 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit Ending Early?

Yes, the 30% solar tax credit could end earlier than expected.

There’s a major change being proposed in Washington that could directly impact Central Valley homeowners thinking about going solar.

As part of the latest budget bill, the federal 30% tax credit for solar and battery storage—which helps homeowners save thousands—may be cut short. Right now, that credit is scheduled to expire at the end of 2025.

What is the 30% Solar Tax Credit?

And How Much Can You Save?

The federal solar tax credit (officially called the 25D credit) lets you deduct 30% of your solar or battery system costfrom your federal income taxes.

           For example:
If your system costs $30,000, you could receive a $9,000 tax credit.

✅ Applies to purchased systems (cash or loan)

Leased systems or PPAs don’t qualify

           Who Qualifies for the Credit?

Homeowners who purchase a solar or battery system (cash or loan)

New solar customers and existing customers who add a battery or panels

Systems installed before the new deadline

Who Doesn't Qualify for the Credit?

            Customers who lease their systems

Customers in PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) contracts

            Systems installed after the deadline

When Does the Tax Credit Expire Now?

If the bill passes this summer—as expected—the 30% tax credit would end 180 days after it’s signed into law. Based on timing, that puts the cutoff around January 2026.

To qualify, your system must be fully installed and inspected before the deadline—not just contracted.

           Why You Shouldn't Wait

We understand that some homeowners may want to wait for confirmation, but here’s why that’s a risk:

Solar projects take time—design, permitting, inspections, utility approvals

Once the bill is signed, a market rush will flood the installation calendar

Waiting too long could mean missing the deadline entirely

On average, it takes 8–12 weeks from contract to installation—and that’s without delays.

Is 2025 a Smart Time to Go Solar?

           Absolutely. Here’s why:

            Equipment is still priced pre-tariff

            Utility rates are rising fast

Interest rates may drop in the future, and solar loans can often be refinanced

The 30% tax credit is available—but possibly not for long

Already Have Solar? You May Still Qualify

If you’ve already installed solar, you may still be eligible for the 30% credit if you:

            Add a backup battery system

            Expand your existing solar array

Even if you claimed the credit before, these upgrades can still qualify.

           Bottom Line: DON'T WAIT

The 30% solar tax credit has helped thousands of Central Valley families take control of their energy bills—and it's about to disappear sooner than expected. If you’re planning to go solar or make system upgrades, now is the time to get started.

           Other reasons:

            Material prices are steady—for now

            Utility rates keep rising

Frequent rate hikes leave families struggling to keep up

In just two years, homeowners in California have seen their electric bills rise by 63.4%, thanks to seven rate hikes. For many, this means spending hundreds more each year just to keep the lights on—money that could’ve gone to savings, home improvements, family vacations, and more.

The increases keep coming, leaving families frustrated and concerned about how much more they’ll have to pay. For some, the electric bill is starting to feel like a second mortgage.

           Why the Rate Hikes?

Utility companies say the money is needed to upgrade old equipment, bury power lines to prevent wildfires, and make the grid safer. But these projects come at a high cost, and most of it is being passed on to homeowners.

Many people feel it’s unfair that families are paying so much out of pocket while companies aren’t contributing enough to offset the cost.

How Families Are Feeling the Pain

Rising electricity bills are squeezing household budgets like never before. Families already dealing with higher prices for food, insurance, and housing are being forced to make tough decisions.

Middle-income families: Less money for vacations, home upgrades, or even basic savings.

Retirees on fixed incomes: Struggling to afford higher bills without cutting back on essentials like groceries or medicine.

Young families: Delaying big plans, like buying a home or paying for kids’ extracurricular activities.

Every dollar spent on rising electric costs is a dollar less for everything else.

           What Can Homeowners Do?

With no end to the rate hikes in sight, many families are looking for ways to fight back. One of the most popular solutions is solar energy.

Switching to solar can help homeowners lock in lower energy costs, avoid future hikes, and even increase home value. Plus, there are incentive programs and financing options that make the switch more affordable than ever.

For families tired of watching their bills climb, solar is more than a solution—it’s a lifeline.

           What’s Next?

The big question is: how much higher will electric bills go? Experts warn that more rate increases could be on the horizon, which means the financial pressure on families isn’t going away anytime soon.

If you’re tired of the uncertainty, now might be the time to explore ways to reduce your energy costs and take back control of your budget.
